John Moses Browning is renowned for designing the iconic pistol that played a pivotal role in both World Wars. It is widely known that Colt manufactured the 1911s. In 1916, Retired Colonel John T Thompson, the same individual who invented the Thompson submachine gun, founded Auto Ordinance. During the war, Auto Ordinance was not only responsible for manufacturing the Thompson but also the M1 Carbine and the M1911 pistols for the United States military and its allies.
