What Does GBB Stand For?

GBB stands for Gas Blowback. In the context of airsoft, GBB refers to a type of airsoft gun that operates using compressed gas, typically propane or green gas, to propel the BB projectiles. GBB guns have a blowback mechanism that simulates the recoil and cycling action of a real firearm, adding to the realism and immersion of the airsoft experience.

How Do GBB Airsoft Guns Work?

Gas Blowback (GBB) airsoft guns operate by utilizing compressed gas and mechanical components to propel BB projectiles. These guns require a gas source, typically propane or green gas, which is stored in magazines or reservoirs within the gun. BBs are loaded into specific magazines, and when the trigger is pulled, a small amount of compressed gas is released from the magazine into the firing chamber. This gas drives a piston or slide mechanism backward, mimicking the recoil action of a real firearm and compressing a spring in the process. As the piston or slide moves back, it creates a temporary chamber behind the BB in the barrel. The compressed gas propels the BB forward, causing it to exit the barrel and travel towards the target. After firing, the slide or piston returns to its forward position due to the compressed spring, readying the gun for the next shot. This cyclic process of blowback, firing, and cycling can be repeated by pulling the trigger again.
